Tailor-made solution for mobile and high-precision GPS GIS data acquisition
With its compact and ultra-mobile ppm10xx GNSS sensor, ppm GmbH, based in Penzberg, Bavaria, offers an innovative solution for the centimeter-precise acquisition of position data that can be seamlessly integrated into any GIS software.
How is the forest developing? How is its use changing? The National Forest Inventory, which will take place for the fourth time in April 2021, aims to answer these and many other questions. Precise location data is a prerequisite for accurate inventory results and for modern forestry in general.
“With our ppm10xx GNSS sensor, we are opening up all the opportunities of digitalization to the mobile GIS sector,” says Michael Singer, Managing Director of ppm GmbH ”The sensor is not only unbeatably easy to use, but also delivers precise, centimetre-accurate measurement data in almost any environment. In addition, the device is tried and tested and has already proven itself in many applications. This makes the ppm10xx GNSS sensor the right solution for the fourth national forest inventory, as well as for every farmer and forester for everyday use.”
The ppm10xx GNSS sensor can be easily connected to a tablet or smartphone via a USB interface. Users can therefore work with their familiar devices and do not have to retrain for a new end device. With compact dimensions of just 10 x 5 x 3 centimetres and a low weight of 130 grams, the device is predestined for mobile use in forestry and agriculture.
The central feature of the device is its high data accuracy: equipped with a helix antenna, the multi-frequency RTK receiver supports all GNSS systems (GPS, GPS, GLONASS, GALILEIO, BEIDO) with almost all frequencies and is therefore able to deliver positions with sub-meter accuracy, even in the forest. These are indispensable in agriculture and forestry to find survey points in the forest or to precisely locate trees with pest infestation. In addition, the ppm10xx GNSS sensor provides reliable results even in unfavorable conditions, such as dense foliage.
The device is available in two versions: As a tablet solution, the ppm10xx sensor is attached to the back of a tablet or smartphone using a holder. The flexible gooseneck enables optimized alignment of the GNSS antenna. An antenna rod kit is supplied with the rod solution. This consists of a pluggable 2 m carbon rod with internal antenna cable and a precise GNSS helix antenna, thus expanding the ppm10xx into a classic surveying system.
The ppm Commander software acts as a link between the GPS receiver and almost any application software, ensuring seamless integration of the measurement data into GIS software without any loss of accuracy. The software is available for all Android devices in the Google Playstore; Windows users can download it directly from the ppm GmbH website.
