With the ppm30xx sensor, ppm GmbH has adopted the recipe for success of the proven ppm10xx sensor.
The ppm30xx GNSS sensor can change its operating state based on time or external input events, ensuring intelligent and efficient utilisation. Available with up to two GNSS receivers plus Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), the ppm30xx GNSS sensor provides highly accurate position, heading, pitch and roll data.
Thanks to its variable equipment and numerous interfaces, the ppm30xx GNSS sensor is suitable for a wide range of application scenarios that require highly accurate location and position determination – from industrial applications such as machine control, to hydrography, to agriculture and forestry.
Flexible design, high accuracy
The ppm30xx GNSS sensor is available in three different versions: with one GNSS receiver for determining the position, with two GNSS receivers for position and heading and with “Tightly Coupled Inertial” technology (TCI). This unique technology uses sensor fusion of IMU and GNSS to create an overall concept that offers a significant increase in accuracy and availability. This is particularly advantageous in areas or with dynamics where GPS receivers provide no or only inaccurate data. In addition, TCI technology ensures that even comparatively inexpensive IMUs can achieve a level of performance that is only available with high-end IMUs using a loosely coupled method.
As a multi-system / multi-frequency receiver, the ppm30xx GNSS sensor is able to process the signals of all current satellite systems (GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, BEIDOU). This means that a sufficient number of satellite signals are reliably available at almost all measuring locations. When using correction data, positioning accuracies in the centimetre range can be achieved.
Ideal as an integrated solution
The sensor reacts automatically to time and external input events, making it ideal for automated operation. For example, if the sensor registers a change in input voltage, such as when a machine is started, it can switch on automatically and send the position or speed to a central server. The sensor can also perform tasks at specific times, for example recording and saving data at the same time every day for a specific period of time.
Wide range of interfaces
A wide range of interfaces ensures that the user can utilise the ppm30xx GNSS sensor in a variety of ways. The integrated isolated DC/DC converter is permanently short-circuit proof and enables operation in a voltage range from +6 to +60 volts. The sensor is therefore compatible with many on-board power supply voltages, e.g. from cars, lorries, agricultural machinery, aircraft, shipboard networks or other external power supplies. Power supply via Ethernet cable (PoE) is also possible.
The Bluetooth function and Ethernet connection ensure smooth data exchange between the field and the office or the central platforms. The CAN bus interface, which is so important for the automotive industry, is also supported. In addition, the CAN DBC protocol, which can also be configured, is an industry standard that enables the receiver to be quickly integrated into existing work or development environments. Furthermore, up to four wheel sensors and digital I/O lines can be connected in parallel. Last but not least, two switchable serial RS232 / 485 interfaces are also available to the user.
Customised programming options
The receiver runs with its own operating system ppmOS. With a Linux-based command structure, users can carry out customised programming and thus perfectly integrate the GNSS sensor into their measurement environment.
Wichmann Innovation Award
The ppm30xx GNSS sensor was presented for the first time at Intergeo from 18 to 20 October 2022 in Essen. In the run-up to the trade fair, the ppm30xx was nominated for the Wichmann Innovation Award.
